What is the
Books from Birth Program?

The newest effort of the Literacy Foundation is the “Books from Birth” Program. The goal of this program is to develop a relationship with children from birth that will continue throughout their childhood years, planting the seeds of literacy and education with free books. In this program we work with hospitals, family physicians and midwives to achieve these goals.

Once a child is enrolled in the program, they will be mailed a brand new, age-appropriate book during each important developmental phase from birth to age five.

Children’s success in school is directly related to the amount of books in their home and how often they are read to. Reading to a child from birth is an important way to build a child’s vocabulary, stimulate their imagination, and develop their cognitive and communication skills.
