As a result of twelve years of fundraising efforts, the Literacy Foundation has given over $300,000 of value through literacy programs, scholarships, grants and book distributions in Northern New Hampshire and Western Maine.

The most noteworthy programs to date are the Bookbag Program, the "Books in Character" Outreach Program and scholarships and grants. The Believe in Books Bookbag Program provides children with backpacks filled with books accessible on loan through local schools and libraries. Our "Books in Character" Outreach Program includes storybook characters, come to life, touring area preschools with volunteers reading and distributing books to the children for their very own! We've also partnered with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Literacy Volunteers of America and First Book, along with local efforts.

The Foundation's most notable fundraising event to date is The Polar Express Event, operating during December of each year, now in two locations in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. This event involves over 1200 wonderful volunteers annually, with tasks and operations continuing throughout the year behind the scenes. The Polar Express Event first began in 1995 and has continued it's growth and popularity, serving as a role model throughout the country. This event has brought thousands of visitors to the region over the years and continues to be the greatest economic contributor to the region from a single non-profit event.
