Literacy Programs

As a result of over 20 years of fundraising efforts, the Believe in Books Literacy Foundation is approaching the 2.5 million dollar mark for literacy programs, scholarships, grants and book distributions brought to Northern New Hampshire and Western Maine.

We regularly visit over 60 preschools reaching hundreds of households and have given out close to 100,000 brand new books over the past few years.

All of our literacy programs are offered free of charge. Our Programs are

The area we serve is throughout four counties in New Hampshire and Western Maine, and growing!

Provide new books and literacy education to families of all registered newborns through participating North Country hospitals.

Directly mail brand new books and parenting information at important developmental stages up to age 5 to all children enrolled in program, each child builds a library of their very own.

Colorful book bags are filled with up to 10 different books and available to check out from local libraries, also rotated during the school year through our Outreach visits to preschools and Head Start programs.

Volunteers who meet the requirements are eligible for our annual Scholarship Program to promote further education for all ages.

Encourage both, the love of reading, and the love of the outdoors by guiding families along paths and trails while reading books through our Storybook Trail Program.

Bring literacy, education and community together with our Earth Day Event to promote conservation to our youth, with Dr. Seuss' The Lorax!

Book Swaps take place at most of our children's events, where families are encouraged to bring a gently used book and then choose a "recycled" book to take home.
