What do we do?

This program provides a new, age-appropriate book to children from birth to age five, at no cost to the family. Once you return the postcard included in your book packet (that families receive at participating hospitals after your baby is born), your child will automatically be enrolled in the "Books from Birth" program and will be mailed a brand new book during each of the following important developmental stages:

3 months
6 months
9 months
1 year

15 months
18 months
2 years
2 1/2 years
3 years
4 years
5 years

The goal of this program is to develop a relationship with children from birth that will continue throughout their childhood years, planting the seeds of literacy and education with free books.

Why read to my baby?

Reading aloud to your child is one of the most important activities you can do to help nurture healthy brain development. Recent research studies have shown that early childhood experiences help determine brain structure, shaping thinking and learning. In addition, children who are read to regularly are more likely to succeed on their path to education and good health.

It's been proven that reading to children also impacts their emotional and social  development, as they share stories with others. Because brain development and early literacy follow the "use it or lose it" principle, exposure to reading should occur early and often.

Did you know?
Children's success in school is directly related to the amount of books in their home and how often they are read to.
